Awhitu eggs: the search for īnanga spawning habitats

Te Korowai o Papatūānuku crew - saline wedge survey

How likely are you to find Īnanga eggs the first time you search? On average, not likely...unless you have Ngāti's eyes!

We recently had a jam-packed training day in Āwhitu with a group of enthusiastic people from Te Korowai o Papatūānuku. The group learned how to perform saline wedge surveys, artificial habitat installation, and Īnanga egg identification.

We are grateful to the landowner for inviting everyone to his patch of stream, and we are stoked to have found eggs on the first try! Looking forward to seeing where this group takes their learnings.
